Why you need aeration in your lakes.

One of the common misconceptions, one of the questions that we get from people a lot of the time when they're considering putting an irrigation system in is they'll say, Well, how many aerators, how many diffusers do I need out in my pond in order to get oxygen all the way to the bottom? The aerators are bubbling gases in the water, but the point of them is not to put oxygen in that bottom layer. It's just to keep the entire water column mixing within your pond.

Your algae and your rooted aquatic plants are the things that are actually putting the oxygen into the water for you. It's hard to think about, but these are diffusers sitting on the bottom, and the companies we work with make really nice diffusers, and it's just a big ceramic plate with hundreds of tiny holes in it. And these work more efficiently. The more and tinier bubbles you have, the more current it generates from the bottom, creates a plume, mixes with the surface and goes back down. And that that constant mixing is what we're going for. And the tinier the bubble is the the better, more efficient that works.
